Life happens. The appointment gets rescheduled. Then rescheduled again. Then six months turns into a year. We’re not here to add to any guilt — but we want to give you a clear picture of what happens biologically when visits get skipped.
Small things become bigger things
A cavity doesn’t appear overnight. It starts as a tiny area of demineralization — almost invisible on an X-ray. At that stage, it can often be remineralized without drilling. Six months later, it needs a filling. Another six months, that filling might become a crown. The math isn’t complicated: a small problem caught early is a small intervention. A small problem left alone becomes an expensive, painful one.
The other thing we’re checking
Jaw and facial development. Airway patterns. Whether there are early signs of a narrow palate or sleep-disordered breathing. These things develop gradually over years. When we see your child every six to twelve months, we can track changes over time. If we haven’t seen your child in two years, we’ve missed a window.
What it actually takes to stay on track
You don’t need to be perfect. You need to show up once or twice a year. At Castle Creek we make that as easy as possible: afternoon and after-school appointments, clear honest communication about what insurance covers, and online scheduling so you can book at 10pm when you finally have two minutes to yourself.
If it’s been a while, we’re not going to lecture you. We’ll assess where things are, tell you what we find in plain language, and put together a plan that works for your family. That’s it.
